Following Who’s The Goose’s 1st birthday event at Mint Lounge, on Oldham St. in the Northern Quarter, Skiddle.com have published a top-notch review of the night.
The night was headlined by Glasgow’s trending grime and trance artist, Russell Whyte, aka Rustie, and according to Skiddle’s review Mason’s in-house sound system truly did him justice…
“The chin-stroking contingent of bass music nights like tonight are notable by their absence. In part, Whyte has Mint Lounge’s colossal soundsystem to thank; no venue in town can translate both the depth and clarity of his album to big speakers in such a way: you’d struggle to find a venue of Mint Lounge’s size that simultaneously accommodates both the crunching bass and delicate melodies that make up the likes of ‘Death Mountain’.”
High praise I think you’ll find – and justified too! A Turbosound system consisting of 3-way 12″ TQ-445 speakers gives great fidelity to the sound and twin-18″ TSW-718 sub-bass units provide some impressive bass to back it up. Why not head down and find out for yourself at one of their many successful nights.

The Tory Party Conference evening event held at Velvet on Canal St went off with a bang thanks to a Martin Audio PA hired from Masons.
The PA, comprising of 4x Martin Audio F12+ full range speakers and a Martin Audio S18+ bass speaker, powered by 2x Crown XTi DSP amplifiers, provided an elegant and effective solution. The XTi amplifiers require no further control units as they have built-in EQ, X-over and Limiting, so a 4u portable rack is all that was required to house them neatly out of the way.
We installed the system into their basement area on the afternoon before the event and collected the morning after and also wired the audio into their in-house system, so that they could have the DJ playing throughout the rest of the venue.
There was also the option to upgrade the bass speaker to a Martin Audio S218+, with twice the power, for a more dance-oriented or larger event.
Along with the PA, we also provided a Starcloth as backdrop for the DJ and a Multipoint Laser and a Hazer machine to set off the party atmosphere. These extras can be hired either as part of a larger package or individually as single items and can include DJ and Live Music equipment, such as mixers, microphones, CDJs and turntables. see our Equipment Hire pages here
All equipment is set-up ready to use on delivery and our Engineer On-Call Service provides technical back-up until 9pm every day of the week, to ensure that your event runs smoothly.

The 200-year-old city centre pub the Sir Ralph Abercromby is opening its doors once more under new management.
Having been closed for the last 5-months in search of new tennants, it finally reopened on Friday 1st July.
The new custodians are resurrecting the kitchen, which has proved so popular with its lunch time crowd in the past, but are giving the menu a new Greek theme. This unique tapas/pub mix should hopefully help them stand out from the crowd of other eateries in the Deansgate area.
We’ve reinstalled a ‘Milestones In Music’ digital jukebox, which provides access to over 30,000 tracks of music from all eras and genres and allows the management to create different atmospheres throughout the day. And with them promising themed parties and a 3/4am late license, this is probably a good thing.
Why not head down and see what they’ve done with the place! 35 Bootle St, off Deansgate.

Due to open this month (July 11) The Pointing Dog restaurant and bar in Cheadle Hulme looks to set the standards in venue renovation.
On the site of what was ‘The Smithy’ pub the restaurateurs Ged Lynch and Neil Lawrence, who are responsible for the Felicini chain of Italian restaurants across the region, have completely transformed what was a worn out old drinking hole into a first-rate modern dining establishment.
The draw of the site was always the large expanse of grounds that came with the venue and they have expanded and extended the original building into some of this space, creating a multi-function dining and drinking space, whilst still retaining the open feel that the site held.
Use of natural materials throughout gives the venue an earthy, grounded feel with exterior wood paneling working and blending with the natural stone and timber used in the extensively landscaped grounds. Wood-burning stoves, stone tiles and exposed wood beams all create the feeling that this building has always been here, in this form, but the almost 360° floor-to-ceiling windows and light-filled glass-roofed dividing atrium let you know that this is definitely a modern-designed space.
Menus and opening date to come…

Masons have been busy making hay in preparation for those hot and lazy summer months. We’ve secured two new venues with installations of ‘Milestone in Music’ digital jukeboxes.
Two great, well run pubs in different parts of Greater Manchester.
The Jolly Carter in Eccles is a classically run pub on Worsley Rd, in Salford. With loyal regulars and plenty of events going on this is a lively pub with a good atmosphere. It boasts a large function room regularly used for bingo, meals and private functions; a vault with pool table and darts board, which hosts pool, darts and poker league games; and also a spacious outdoor area with large carpark and beergarden split into two, with one area for families and kids and the other for the regular drinkers.
We installed a ‘MIM’ jukebox containing enough music to cover all tastes and events. In this case we also installed a 4-channel amp into the jukebox to give the staff the ability to adjust the volume in each area individually – giving complete control over the use of the venue.
The Swan & Cemetery in Bury is a great old pub that’s been given a new lease of life by new management. 2 minutes from Bury’s Gigg Lane ground on the Manchester Rd it has been fully refurbished with a great restaurant to the rear and also dining and drinking at the main bar. Also boasting large outdoor areas with a carpark and dining and drinking areas to both the front and rear, this is a pub thats loves the summer. Great food and a great pint deserve a setting as good as this!
Again, we installed a ‘MIM’ digital jukebox which we programmed to provide subtle background music during the day for the diners but also to allow the venue to come to life in the evenings with drinkers being able to select the tracks they want, to create a party vibe.

The Odd empire are currently putting the finishing touches to an extension to their original venue Odd Bar on Thomas St in the Northern Quarter.
They’re expanding upwards into the floor above their existing bar, giving them increased capacity and a great view out onto Thomas St itself.
Masons have been drafted in to extend their sound and video systems with the space being destined for use by DJs and a digital projector and screen also being installed for showing movies.
The current basement area is being taken out with the space being used to accommodate a larger kitchen and cellar to service the larger capacity of the venue.
The space is due to open in a couple of weeks time with some of the decor taking a Japanese theme, so come down and be one of the first to test out they’re new space and see what you think.

Dry Bar’s newly expanded and reopened basement, ‘Dry Live’, has just received a massive shot in the arm in the form of a huge Martin Audio sound system courtesy of Masons Sound.
Boasting an impressive line up of 4x Martin Audio H3H+ horn-loaded top boxes and 4x Martin Audio WS218X high output sub-bass units, this is a system that means business. Whether its DJs or live music, this is a system that can offer all the punch and growl that you’d ever need.
Not only that, but by utilising Martin Audio’s range of high-powered yet discrete, switch mode powered, Powersoft-engineered amplifiers, the entire system is run from just 4u of rack equipment, which sits quietly in the corner of their office. No large, hot and noisy amp rack here – just 27kW of power from 3u of amps!

Once again we’ve extended our portfolio of TV venues. A Masons jukebox can now be seen in The Jockey on C4′s Shameless, as well as in the Rover’s Return on ITV’s Coronation St and the Queen Vic on BBC’s Eastenders!
As part of The Jockey’s refurb that happened for the start of the new series we were asked to supply an NSM Tradition wallbox to take pride of place at the end of the bar.
Its situated in the perfect spot – just to the left of the bar, next to the entrance to the toilets – prime jukebox position! (See Shane Maguire below, in a terrible screen shot, with our jukebox behind and the Masons logo clearly visible.) Keep your eyes peeled and see if you can spot it in the show.
